So, you are here in Aeternum for the first time on the beach and are wondering how you should go about leveling your first character. Here are some quick tips to get you started!
• Do all the quests in this starting area. We want as much experience from here as possible for when we get to town so much sure you do all the quests here.
• Craft all your level 1 tools - One of the first quests will ask you to craft a skinning knife. When gathering materials for that knife make sure to grab a few extra pieces of flint and branches so you can make a full set of gathering tools.
• If you see hyssop, Pick it up! Hyssop will be used to craft us potions which will be very important. The reasons gathering here is very important are first there are a lot of materials here making it easy to start leveling your gathering, and we are going to have to gather while leveling and as we level up our gathering it goes faster as you level up.
Now that we are starting to get levels there are a few things to keep in mind.
- Don't Fear fall damage! – This means feel free to jump from crazy heights to make your journey quicker when moving from one place to another.
- Pick up the papers – Lore pages give experience when you read it for the first time, and it has some cool lore on it as well.
- Once you hit level 5 equip another weapon - This will allow you to start animation canceling after dodging using the weapon swap method allowing you to move faster. Also, If you decide to swap off the sword and shield, make sure you take off your shield because it will add to your armor weight. Also remember to deconstruct extra armor, weapons, or tools you have because this will give us repair parts for repairing our gear. If you don’t know how to do this, it is done by right-clicking on the weapon you wish to deconstruct and just follow the prompt.
- Dodging needs `at least 1 stamina. – This means even if it takes 50 stamina to dodge you can wait a split second after the first dodge to get to 51 stamina and dodge 2 more times.
There are a few things I keep in mind when choosing where to put my attribute points in.
- Consider Constitution! - The 50-point bonus for constitution buffs your health pots by 20%. I also like stacking Constitution, it will allow you to go through the story easily. This may seem very odd, but the mobs hurt a lot and if you put points into constitution, you can start pulling large packs of mobs and killing them very easily.
- Optimize Attribute Thresholds - These can be seen on the attribute page and for each attribute are 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, and 300.
How should you spend your region points?
- Focus one region as your leveling region. - In this region anytime that I get the option to get experience as a reward I take it. The reason I have a leveling region is that once you hit 60 that stat is pretty much useless, so I try to make a region like Monarch’s Bluff or Bright Wood somewhere that I really focus on leveling in the early levels.
- Quicker gatherings - In New World, you will be gathering a lot, and this is such a high quality of life perk that will be amazing once you start putting points into it.
- Storage. - After my storage points, I just fill in the rest as I see fit for each region. Some regions may have the best marketplace so I start stacking lower taxes, but this can differ in each region. The reason I have a leveling region is that once you hit 60 that stat is pretty much useless, so I try to make a region like Monarch’s Bluff or Bright Wood somewhere that I really focus on leveling in the early levels.
Now that we have a good baseline for our character let’s talk about gearing questing and leveling.
- When it comes to questing, I pick up every quest I can. - I don’t always do every quest but I make sure I have the option to do as many quests in an area as possible.
- You can quest from any city. – Any city you go to will have quests for all levels so if you get stuck, try going to a new city for more quests.
- Complete the faction quest! – Around level 8 or 9 you will be able to pick your faction. It is important to do this because it unlocks faction quests and allows you to join a guild.
- Once you have the faction quests unlocked, I start prioritizing these quests as well as the main story quests. – Each city has a faction representative, and you can do 3 quests a day for bonus rewards. This will be how you get most of your leveling gear. The currency you get while doing these quests can be used to get great gear so use this to your advantage. Once you get the gear you need, I go back to only doing the 3 quests a day in each city – These are best done in large groups. The reason doing these quests is best done in groups is because the bottom 3 quests give the most rewards and you must be flagged for PVP to do them.
When buying the gear from the faction vendor there are a few things to keep in mind.
- Each piece of vendor gear comes with constitution and another stat. – Light armor comes with intelligence, medium comes with dexterity, and heavy comes with strength.
- Don’t worry if this isn’t your main stat. - You can buy rune on the faction vendor to change that piece of gear to the stat you need by using that rune and 50 azoth at the crafting bench.
Once you get close to level 25, we can stop questing and start grinding mobs. This can be done in 1 of 2 ways.
- The first way is to start grinding the dungeons. - You can do the quest and run through the lower-level dungeons quickly giving some decent experience.
- The 2nd way is to grind the overland dungeons. - These are essentially dungeons that have elite mobs and are not instanced. The first one is Deadman’s cove in the southwest part of Monarch’s Bluffs. This will be the one of the fastest ways to level your weapons and your character. There is at least a dungeon or an overland dungeon in each zone, so make sure to go to each one to grind out your levels.
From here on out we will be doing this same loop of always focusing on the main story quest and the faction quests when we need to gear up. We will also be doing any quests in the areas that we are nearby and grinding mobs in either dungeons or overland dungeons all the way to 60. If you start to get bored make sure you kill a few corrupted portals which give azoth and some pretty good experience. The most important part of leveling is to have fun. Getting to 60 is going to take some time and rushing it can be grueling and can burn you out if you are only doing what is the fastest or what is ever considered to be “the best”. As I level, I always find time to do things like pvp, mess around with other guildmates, take forts, and just other fun stuff that can be seen as not productive. Enjoy leveling as much as possible and get there on your own time.
