How Do U Think about The New World PVP From A Player

I was afraid this was gonna happen to New World solely because of how broken and borderline nonsensical the Lumberyard game engine was throughout the game's development. Amazon tried to force an outdated version of CryEngine with Amazon Web Services shoved in to become the next big thing, with New World being meant to be proof of concept for the engine's feasibility.


Long story short, Amazon decided to "donate" their messy and bugridden engine to the Open 3D Engine project in hopes that the open source community can finally get it to work. What's interesting is that they did this right around the time New World was going through closed beta in July. 


My speculation is that they found issues they knew were gamekilling and decided then to scrap the whole engine, put the game on the backburner, and get some clout with the open source community all at once. Now all of these "unforseen" issues are getting slowly worked on as the community complains about them in some effort to deliver a minimum viable product and to stretch the game's lifespan out as much as possible.


What's funny is that progress on O3DE has rapidly improved since Amazon took their hands off of it. It's nowhere near ready to spit out an MMORPG, but now the greedy corporate executives have no say in how it is managed. I think the Amazon devs were essentially being forced to make Lumberyard be something that it simply wasn't ready for.


I am honestly awestruck that the New World developers managed to give us a baseline functional MMO with Lumberyard, and I think that's because of how committed they were. In the O3DE Discord you can even see developers employed by Amazon who still contribute to O3DE, and that gives me hope that the New World devs will somehow fix things, even tho the engine they're still using has been abandoned by the company they work for.
